The Pulteney Free Library is in Pulteney, N.Y. on the western shore of Keuka Lake in the heart of the beautiful Finger Lakes.
The Pulteney Free Library was founded in 1881 using leftover assets of the Pulteney Temperance Union. In 1976, a fire destroyed the old school house that then housed the Library. The Library was in a trailer until 1978 when it moved into the newly built Pulteney Town Hall. The Town needed this space, so the Pulteney Free Library has just completed building a new facility. The space in the Town Hall was 1,260 square feet and inadequate for the Library’s current needs. The new Library is 6,000 square feet with a full basement. The cost of the building has been completely raised using grants and personal donations.
The mission of the Pulteney Free Library is to provide and to encourage the use of Library resources and services where we can best meet the evolving informational, recreational/social, and educational needs of area residents, thus enhancing individual and community life.
Funding for the Library is obtained through a public vote, from grants, and donations and memorials made by the public.
A seven member Board of Trustees oversees the operation, planning, and policy of the Library. The Library is staffed by a Director, Assistant, and a dedicated crew of volunteers.
The Pulteney Free Library is Handicap accessible.
